FC Goa came out with a 2-0 win against Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League and is currently the league leaders.
Chennai had a strong attack to show as they lined up Elano, top scorer Stiven Mendoza and Fikru. Goa, however, played with a five man defence which proved hard to break down. Mendoza had a golden chance in the 35th minute when Elano’s free kick fooled all the defenders and reached his right foot. The Chennai striker failed to capitalize on the same and shot it wide.
Goa was mostly silent in the first half. They had good chance just minutes before the break but Mehrajuddin Wadoo was there to keep Chennai in the game.

FC Goa turned the match around in the second half. They were heavily attacking throughout and this paid off when they were awarded a penalty in the 64th minute. Bernard Mendy took out Rafael Coelho in the box and Leo Moura stepped in and calmly made it 1-0 in favor of Goa.
Just 10 minutes later, Goa had their second penalty when the ball hit Wadoo’s hand inside the box. This time, Jonatan Lucca stepped in to take the spot kick and he didn’t make any mistakes. Chennai’s day worsened when Harmanjyot Khabra was sent off for a tackle on Moura.
With the win, Goa has moved to top of the table with 14 points whereas Chennai is in fifth place with 10 points from eight matches.
