The Indian cricket team bounced back perfectly in the first India vs South Africa first test match after a solid second day.

India vs South Africa: Ashwin Shines for India

India-vs.-South-africa

Murali Vijay produced a great batting display in the second day

South Africa resumed their day on a solid note but after a good first hour the script unravelled fast.First to go was first day’s hero Dean Elgar was dismissed by Ravichandra Ashwin. Elgar was earlier dropped by Wriddhiman Saha, but the South African batsman failed to capitalize on his second life. AB De Villiers, who came into the crease to aid his captain Hashim Amla tried to build a solid partnership for the Proteas. De Villiers, however, struggled against the Indian spinners but still went on to score a 50. Amla, on the other hand, was dismissed by Ashwin for a great innings of 43.

The South African batting line up crumbled after the dismissal of Amla as wickets fell thick and fast. Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin and Amit Mishra ripped through the opposition and did not allow even one batsman to cross the double figures.

Soon, South Africa was bowled out for just 184, giving India a lead of 17 runs. De Villiers proved to be the top scorer for South Africa with 63 runs. As far as the Indian bowlers were concerned, Ashwin stood out with figures of 5-51, while the returning Jadeja picked up three wickets.

India Shows Patience with the bat

The second innings of India started just like the first one when they lost Shikhar Dhawan early. He was dismissed by Vernon Philander for another duck and this brought Cheteshwar Pujara on to the crease. Pujara built a solid partnership with Murali Vijay and the duo steered India to a commendable position of 95-1 before Vijay’s wicket fell. The opener had 47 runs to his name.

Virat Kohli joined Pujara in the middle and the latter went on to reach his half century as well. When the day ended, India was in a good position of 125 for 2 with Pujara and Kohli in the middle and a lead of 142 that would eventually prove too much for the proteas.
