The first test between India vs South Africa ended in favor of the home side as they managed to defend a small target successfully.
In the pitch that aided the spinners, both teams only managed to post low scores in both the innings. On the third day of the match, India initially suffered a big blow. The team that was positioned well with a score of 161-3 in the morning session was bowled out soon for 200. The wickets fell very fast and it was Harmer and Imran Tahir that made the second innings a forgettable one for the Indians.
Cheteshwar Pujara was the top scorer for the home side with 77 runs to his name. Meanwhile, for South Africa, both Harmer and Imran Tahir notched up four wickets each. Despite the low total, India had a lead of 217.
India vs South Africa: Spinners do the job for India
With a target of 217 on board, South Africa wanted to make a statement. However, Ravichandra Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had other things in their minds. Jadeja, Ashwin and Amit Mishra ripped through the South African batting line up and the only batsman who managed to withstand the attack was Van Zyl. He had a score of 36 to his name while Dean Elgar and AB De Villiers came in second with 16 runs each.
South Africa was bowled out for a mere 109 and this gave India a remarkable 108 run victory. Ravindra Jadeja, who took five wickets in the second innings went home with the Man of the match award.
