South Africa opened with Stiaan Van Zyl and Dean Elgar but the partnership was soon broken by Ravichandra Ashwin. Faf Du Plessis also fell victim to Ashwin before Varun Aaron came in and dismissed Hashim Amla. This pushed South Africa to a precarious stage of 45 for 3 after just 15 overs.
The misery piled up for the proteas when Virat Kohli introduced Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. Jadeja, who won the man of the match award in the last match, dismissed Dean Elgar for 38. AB De Villiers came in and steadied the ship with a half-century but wickets were falling on the other end. JP Duminy and Dane Vilas were dismissed by Ashwin and Jadeja respectively before Jadeja got hold of De Villiers for 85. The tail end was cleaned up by the spinning duo and this restricted South Africa to a score of 214 for 10 in 59 overs.
