Asian Shooting Championship Recap: India Finish Third

The Indian Shooting team finished third in the 2015 Asian Shooting Championship held in Kuwait. The Indian shooters won a total of 15 gold medals, 10 silvers and 10 bronze medals to have a total of 35 medals. China finished second with 16 gold, 12 Silvers and 9 bronze medals and South Korea came first with 16 gold medals, 18 silvers and 15 bronze medals.

Heena Sidhu came home with the gold medal in the 10M pistol event

India had a great outing in both the senior and junior categories. In the senior Men’s 50m Rifle three positions, Swapnil Kusale won the Gold medal in the junior category. And in the team event India won the silver.

Swapnil then won the gold medal in the Men’s 50 M Rifle prone as well. He then proved instrumental in helping his team win the Gold in the same event. The next junior category medal for India came thanks to Akhil Sheoran. He won silver in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle category when his team won silver. Prashant won bronze for India.

The Women’s 50m Rifle Three positions did not win any medal in the junior category, but the Senior team did take home the bronze for the country.

Gaayathri Ihyanandam won silver in the junior Women’s 50m Rifle prone event and the Indian team won silver as well.

Pistol Events

Jitu Rai won the first major senior medal for India when he won the Silver in the Men’s 50M pistol category. Mahendra Singh then followed up with silver in the Men’s 25M Standard Pistol event where the Indian team also won the Bronze medal.

Heena Sidhu then rounded off a great event for India with a gold medal in the Women’s 10m Air pistol event.
