Saina Nehwal looks ascertain to retain her China Open Title with a win over China’s Yihan Wang in the semis. She will next face Li Xuerui in the final.
One more win needed for Saina Nehwal
The top seed at the tournament has been in phenomenal form overcoming every opponent with relative ease. The fate of Yihan Wang came to a similar end in the semis.
Both the players started on an even note and the battle grew fierce. Wang opened her scoring with the first two points in the game, Saina equalised, then Saina took the lead and Wang came from behind and equalised. The same continued for most parts of the first game. But at the score of 14-13 in favour of the Indian, Saina took the game for herself winning seven points in a row leaving her opponent in complete shock.
Saina with the one game lead played the second game with less pressure. Wang, on the other hand determined to win used a similar strategy like the first game. And this time she came much closer to victory and taking the match to the decider. However, Saina’s brilliant play in the final minutes took the game away from the Chinese.
Saina managed a comfortable 21-13, 21-18 win over Yihan Wang in the semis.
Li Xuerui has the advantage
Seventh seed Li Xuerui has the upper hand against the Indian looking at their head-to-head records. The two have competed 11 times with the Indian emerging victorious only twice.
Will Saina make it her third win over Xuerui and retain the crown in the finals?
