In the third Pool A game, India went up against China at the Junior Asia Cup. The Indian youngsters showed a solid defensive performance and struck four times to finish without losing a single point in the group stages. India’s Harmanpreet Singh, Ajit Pandey scored a goal each and Manpreet Jr scored a brace to give India a comfortable margin for victory.
India finishes on top of group at Junior Asia Cup
The Indian group consisted of China, Japan and hosts Malaysia. India emerged on top among the teams with two closely contested matches against Japan and Malaysia, while India played their best against China in the final group encounter.
The Indian team managed to break the Chinese defense with relative ease. However, they failed to change the score-line to their favour early on. The deadlock finally broke in the 16th minute as India took lead.
The teams went into half-time at the score of 1-0 in favour of India. Within a few minutes into the second half India struck again to double the lead. The lead was short-lived as China struck to reduce the goal difference at 2-1. As the margin of victory narrowed, India went up on the attack and Manpreet Jr added two more goals for the Indian team that ensured a comfortable 4-1 victory for India.
