Rani Helps Indian Women Storm Into Semis

The Indian Women’s Hockey team has been improving with every passing game. In the 6th Pool A , played between India and Malaysia at the Seonhak Stadium in Incheon. India put up yet another display of dominant hockey as they outplayed the Malaysians by a huge margin of 5 goals. The final score read 6-1.


Rani was in her elements as she scored a brace against Malaysia

Indian Center forward Rani found a quick rhythm today, as she led proceedings with two goals. Rani was well aided by Jaspreet Kaur, who also scored a brace. Namita Toppo and Vandana Katariya scored one goal each. For the Malaysians, the skipper Nadia Binti was the lone goalscorer.

The opening goal was scored just four minutes after the game started. Rani produced brilliant play from the left flank and ended up scoring a splendid field goal. 5 minutes later, Jaspreet Kaur followed up with a penalty corner.
The Indian eves had their intentions clear. Score as many goals as possible. More goals followed in the 2nd quarter as Namita Toppo and Rani came up with 2 field goals in quick succession and gave the team an unassailable 4-0 lead.

In the third quarter, India was awarded a penalty corner in the 39th minute. Jaspreet scored off the penalty corner and added another goal to her tally. Two minutes later,the Malaysian captain Nadia Binti scored in the same fashion. This was the only goal for Malaysia in the match. They played their best hockey in the third quarter. The last of all goals came in the 50th minute, when Vandana Katariya scored a brilliant field goal to seal the match.

With this win, India qualifies for the semi finals and in all probability, will face 2010 Asian games Silver medallists South Korea. The journey from here is going to be tough and the team will need to come out with a similar performance to keep their medal hopes alive.
