The top rated player at the national chess championship, SP Sethuraman suffered back to back defeats in the tournament that puts him down on the standings. While the other top rated player Vidit Gujrathi emerges half a point clear of his compatriots after completing six rounds.
Women’s National Championship
In the women’s championship Padmini Rout and Swati Ghate enjoy joint lead after eight rounds. The two joint-leaders go head-to-head in the ninth round which could end up being the title decider as they both are a point clear over their rivals with 6.5 points.
However, after the face-off between Padmini and Swati, they will still play another two rounds of chess.
Vidit leads, Karthikeyan and Das closely follow at the National Chess Championship
Unlike the women’s championship, the National Chess Championship is wide open for the taking with many takers waiting for the opportunity. After six rounds, Vidit holds the lead with 4.5 points. While, P Karthikeyan and Arghyadip Das closely follow behind with 4 points each.
The tournament has another five rounds remaining and most of the players in closing gap from the leader it will be crucial for Vidit to not give away his lead in the coming rounds.
