In a mixed day for the Indian players at the Macau Open, Shuttlers HS Prannoy, B Sai Praneeth and PV Sindhu registered comfortable victories. On the other hand, the pair of Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponappa and Ajay Jayaram exited the tournament.
Good start for India at Macau Open
B Sai Praneeth was the first Indian to confirm his entry into the next round overcoming Uzbekistan’s Artyom Savatyugin in a quick match. The match lasted only 24 minutes and Praneeth dominated his opponent in straight games 21-11, 21-8. Prannoy came next and overcame his Chinese Taipei opponent 21-19, 21-15 in just over the minute mark.
PV Sindhu is the only Indian shuttler in the women’s singles and has managed to overcome her opponent in a difficult match. She is seeded fifth and displayed her strength in the first game. But her opponent from Korea made a strong return in the second game. But the game and the match belonged to the Indian as she commanded with the scores of 21-13, 22-20.
Gutta-Ponappa pair going through tough time
The pair has participated in numerous tournaments in the second half of the year but struggled to make it ahead of the first few rounds. At Macau, the result was no different, the pair seeded second lost to the Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota.
