The third test between India and South Africa was wrapped up in the third day of play as India managed to come away with a 2-0 series win. In a match that was filled with controversy, the last day saw some interesting developments and we are going to take a look at them.
Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla showcase brilliance
While the pitch had its fair share of criticism for being bowling friendly, Hashim Amla and Faf Du Plessis delivered a classy performance on the last day. Amla faced a total of 167 balls in the second innings to make 39 runs when du Plessis faced 152 balls. Duminy, who had a solid first innings also found some resistance in the pitch.
Ashwin takes wickets for fun
Ravichandran Ashwin once again proved to be the spearhead for Indian bowling attack as he picked up seven wickets in the second innings of the match. The wicket of AB De Villiers was the most notable one from the lot. De Villiers was once again dismissed cheaply, this time for just 9 runs.
Mishra picks up crucial wickets
Amit Mishra, who was overshadowed by Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings, came back strongly to dismiss Amla and Plessis. South Africa was slowly moving towards a successful chase with Amla and Plessis on the middle but Mishra picked up the wicket of both batsmen and changed the match in India’s favour.
India beat number one team in test
With the series win, India has defeated the number one ranked test team and also ended South Africa’s undefeated streak on away soil. There is still one more test match left in the series and it would be interesting to see how that plays out.
