Ghosal, who was one of the biggest hopes of India in the tournament, picked up an injury on his right foot. The injury happened during his first round match against Steve Coppinger and it ruled him out of the next match against top seed Mohammed Elshorbagy of Egypt.
The injury has also taken out Saurav from the WSF Men’s World Squash championship. This is another blow for the team following the withdrawal of Mahesh Mangaonkar due to personal health issues.
In the women’s category, both Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal failed to get past the round of 16 of the tournament. Dipika had a hard fought battle against the third seed Camille Serme of France and lost out the match for a score line of 7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.
Joshna, on the other hand, lost out to Joelle King of New Zealand. The Indian starlet was leading the match with two games to one at a point but Joshna failed to capitalise on the same and eventually lost the match. The final score read 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6 in favour of Joelle King after a well-contested battle.
