The Indian Football team kicked off their SAFF Championship with a win against Sri Lanka
India fielded a strong team for the match with Jeje, Sunil Chhetri, and Robin Singh leading the attack. However, Sanju Pradhan caused big headaches for the opposition.
He was constantly tiring out the Lankan defence and got ample support from the likes of Narayan Das and Eugeneson Lyngdoh.
India dominated throughout the first half and took the lead in the 50th minute through Robin Singh. After another spell of dominance, India doubled their lead. It was the combination of Chhetri and Singh once again with the latter completing his brace. This was Robin Singh’s third goal in two matches as he had earlier scored against Guam in the World Cup Qualifiers.
The score remained same until the final whistle and marked India’s first win in the tournament. India enjoyed nearly 80 percentage of the possession and had a flurry of corners to their name as well, which in turn showed India’s dominance in the match.
India will next face Nepal on December 27 and a win could see them through to the next round.
