The Indian football team confirmed their Semi-final berth in the SAFF Championship after defeating Nepal 4-1.
India made some big changes from the side that defeated Sri Lanka in the opener. The biggest change happened to be the exclusion of Robin Singh, who had scored a brace in the Sri Lanka match.
Nepal shocked the hosts early on when they took the lead through Bimal Magar in the 3rd minute. It took India another 23 minutes to level the score through Rowlin Borges.
Both teams created chances throughout the first half, but the scoreline remained unchanged. Chhetri then broke the deadline and scored in the 68th minute to make it 2-1.
The remaining twenty minutes of the game proved to be a great platform for Liverpool academy product Chhangte Lallianzuala. The eighteen-year-old scored a brace within the twenty minutes and completed the Indian dominance. In turn, he also became the youngest Indian scorer.
With the win, India has secured their spot in the semi-finals when Nepal’s hopes of doing the same crashed down.
Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives are the other teams that will accompany India in the semi-final stage of the tournament.
