The Indian football team reached the final of the SAFF Championship after defeating Maldives 3-2.
With Robin Singh out, India started with Sunil Chhetri and Jeje upfront. The wonder kid, Lallianzuala Changte was kept on the bench much to the disappointment of the Indian fans.
The highly anticipated semi-final clash between the two sides was well poised but the Indian team seemed to be in control throughout. India took the lead through Sunil Chhetri’s header in the 25th minute and doubled their lead just seven minutes later through Jeje.
Before the teams went for the half-time break, Maldives pulled one back through Ahmed Nashid. Maldives was chasing the game through the major part of second half and it went out of their hands when Jeje completed his brace in the 66th minute.
Maldives did reduce the damage when Amdaan Ali scored ten minutes later but the game was clearly out of their hands.
India ranked 166 in the world will get confidence from their win over the higher ranked Maldives (160).
Sunil Chhetri’s men will now face either Sri Lanka or Afghanistan in the finals of the tournament.
