The 2015 edition of SAFF Championship will come to a close on Sunday. Hosts India and Afghanistan will be fighting for the top honor and it is expected to be a great match for neutral fans. Here is a look at the preview of the match.
Both India and Afghanistan are undefeated in the tournament so far. When Afghanistan won four out of four matches, India won three out of their three. However, Afghanistan has been on a goal scoring spree. The team scored five against Sri Lanka in the semi-finals and had a goal difference of +10 from their group stage matches.
Head to Head
The Head to head record is encouraging for India. Out of the six matches played so far between the teams, the Indian team has won four games, lost one, and drawn one. The last match played went in favor of Afghanistan with a score line of 2-0.
Players to watch out
Sunil Chhetri will lead the Indian attack in the final. He has been excellent so far in the tournament and will be looking to continue this run. Jeje and Narayan Das will be two other important players for India. We could also see a magical moment from the wonderkid Lallianzuala Chhangte.
As for Afghanistan, the likes of Masih Saighani, Ahmad Hatifie, and Hassan Amin will be crucial. Khaibar Amani is the top scorer in the tournament so far with four goals from four matches and he will be a menace to the Indian defence as well along with Faysal Shayeseth, who has four goals from three matches.
Another major factor that will impact the final is the home crowd. The Greenfield stadium did see a decent crowd in the matches that went by and it is expected to double for the final. There will be some solid support for the Indian team and this could come in handy.
It is hard to pick a winner from this one, but for the sake of prediction, we are going with a narrow win for Afghanistan. The Indian defence has been all over the place in the SAFF championship and Afghanistan is likely to take advantage of the same.
