Chennai Smashers registered their second consecutive win at the tournament against the Delhi Acers in Lucknow. While Mumbai Rockets continue to lead the table with an emphatic win over the Bengaluru Top Guns. Both the teams won with a close margin of 4-3.
Chennai Smashers vs Delhi Acers
Chris Adcock and Pranaav Chopra took to the court for the Smashers in the opening match of the tie against Delhi’s Tan Boon Hoeng and Koon Kiet Keat. The two teams performed well on the court putting up a strong fight. But the Acers from Delhi could not deliver the final shot as they lost the opening points for their team. The Smashers won the match 15-12, 15-14. Ajay Jayaram entered court next for the Delhi Acers hoping to get the tie back on level against an in-form Simon Santoso. Jayaram impressed and he got the points for his team with a 15-6, 15-9 win.
Taking the tie to 1-1.
The mixed doubles witnessed an Adcock’s battle as Chris was up for Chennai Smashers with partner Pia Zebadiah and Gabrielle Adcock with Koon Kiet Keat. Chris and Pia got the better of the Delhi Acers in a closely tied match that went to sudden death to win the game every time. Finally it ended 14-15, 15-14, 15-14.
Chennai and Delhi both had their trump games up next. PV Sindhu taking charge of Chennai Smashers trump game against Acers PC Thulasi ended in a quick victory for the Smashers. Sindhu won 15-4, 15-5. On the other hand, Tommy Sugiarto played Acers trump and took the first game quick and second eventually followed as he won 15-4, 15-11.
Mumbai Rockets vs Bengaluru Top Guns
This game was taken down to the wire in the final game as both team tied at 3-3 and Rocket’s mixed doubles pair of Vladimir Ivanov and Liu Zi Diu took not just the match but the tie from the clutches of the Top Guns.
Top Guns Suo Di emerged victorious in the opening game against Han Li in the women’s singles. But the momentum did not turn in favour of the Top Guns as doubles pair of Mathias Boe and Vladimir Ivanov took the next trump game and RMV Gurusaidutt won his men’s singles to give Mumbai a 3-1 lead in the tie. However, the Top Guns made a comeback with their trump game as Kidambi Srikanth defeated HS Prannoy.
