Delhi Acers blitz past Top Guns
The home team got off to a flying start with Ajay Jayaram dominating Sameer Verma in the opening tie of the night. Verma was completely outclassed and Jayaram won the first points for his side 15-10, 15-12. Koo Keat Kien and Tan Boon Heong were again trusted with the trump match for the Acers and they happily repaid the faith winning 15-9, 15-10.
But it was the performance of Rajiv Ouseph that took all Delhi fans by surprise as he took on India’s best ranked singles shuttler Kidambi Srikanth. Srikanth was quick to overpower Ouseph in the first game winning 15-4. But Ouseph made a stunning comeback to win the match 4-15, 15-11, 15-9 with the backing of the home crowd. The win ended Top Guns hopes of reviving the tie in any way.
With no major significance of the remaining matches, Top Guns’ Suo Di salvaged their trump match against Shikha Gautam to open the score for the visitors 15-5, 15-6. In the final match of the night Gabrielle Adcock and Koo Keat Kien enjoyed a victory over Ashwini Ponappa and Khim Wha Lim in a tough battle that ended 15-14, 9-15, 15-12.
