India earned a comprehensive 64 run victory in the Western Australia XI v India 2nd warm up match at Perth yesterday. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Men in Blue posted a challenging 249 on the board in 50 overs. Their bowlers subsequently made sure that the target was made insurmountable for the Western Australians by all possible means!
Top order fails, Rohit, Rahane and Pandey stand out
The visitors were in for quite a shock early in the innings as both half centurions from the previous day – Kohli and Dhawan – were dismissed within the 6th over. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane, however, managed to get India past the first hour without any more damage. But crisis befell the visitors once again, at around the half way mark. Both the batsmen were dismissed in quick succession and the run rate nosedived. Gurkeerat Singh and MS Dhoni failed with the bat, and India were reduced to 171/6 in the 38th over. Manish Pandey stood out thereafter, with a gritty 58, that helped India post a decent total.
Indian bowlers choke Western Australia
Umesh Yadav and Barinder Sran bowled with discipline and maintained a tight line and length to begin with. This led to the fall of the first wicket in the 10th over, with the scoreboard reading 39. The spinners were introduced into the attack shortly afterwards, and the Aussies could never get going from thereon. Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar Patel bowled with economy rates below 4, and squeezed the life out of the chase during the middle overs. A fighting half century from Jaron Morgan was never going to be enough for the cause. The Western Australians limped towards the target aimlessly, and were bowled out in the 50th over for a score of 185.
