Delhi Acers kept up their consistency

In the semi-finals the Acers came up against their rivals from the south Chennai Smashers led by PV Sindhu. And it was not an easy match to play, initially the Delhi Acers picked the lead winning both the first and the second match that consisted of the men’s doubles and one men’s singles. But, Chennai made their comeback with wins in the next two matches in mixed doubles and women’s singles (also Chennai Smashers trump match) played by PV Sindhu. She kept her unbeaten run at the tournament PC Thulasi but Delhi enjoyed the victory with Sugiarto playing his best against Leverdez to win the tie 4-3(trump match for Delhi Acers).

This win made way for the Delhi Acers into the finals of the Premier Badminton League. The final showdown witnessed a capital versus capital tie as the team from the national capital Delhi took on the team from financial capital Mumbai.

The final tie began somewhat poorly for Delhi Acers, losing their opening match in the mixed doubles to Vladimir Ivanov and Kamilla Juhl. But the Acers made a comeback as Sugiarto proved too good for HS Prannoy and equalled the score on the night. The men’s doubles fixture witnessed Delhi taking the lead to 2-1, before losing it in the Mumbai Rockets trump match at the hands of PC Thulasi. Now, Delhi only needed to maintain their undefeated streak in their trump match as Rajiv Ouseph took on RMV Gurusaidutt in the decider for the crown. The Acers man received tough competition from the Indian youngster. However, the experience played a pivotal role and Rajiv Ouseph help Delhi Acers to the crown.

Looking back through the tournament, Delhi Acers’ use of the trump matches played a very crucial role in winning them the title.
