Sania Mirza continues her great run of form from last year winning both her matches at the Australian Open. She registered comfortable victories with partners Martina Hingis in the women’s doubles and Ivan Dodig supported her well in the mixed doubles.
Sania Mirza continues to impress
Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis completely dominated the play against their Ukrainian opponents in a match that lasted just over an hour. Lyudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok were forced to make 22 unforced errors as compared to 11 committed by Mirza-Hingis pair. The Indo-Swiss pair registered 6-2, 6-3 win in the second round.
Dodig and Sania had a difficult match playing against the Australian pair of Nick Kyrgios and Ajla Tomljanovic. Playing against the crowd is never easy but the Indo-Croatia pair kept their cool and at the end managed to win comfortably in straight sets. The match lasted just a minute under an hour winning 7-5, 6-1.
Other results at the Australian Open
Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka kept up their good form managing to win their respective thrid round matches. While Gabrine Muguruza joined the list of top seeded exits at the Australian Open.
Lukas Rasol of the Czech Republic did not seem like an opponent who could cause any trouble to Stan Wawrinka looking at his performance in the first and the second set losing 6-2, 6-3. Rasol gathered all his strength and technique in the third set hoping to take the match further but he failed to make it through after a tough set losing 7-6 (7-3).
Murray faced a tough match against Potrugal’s Joao Sousa in a four set thriller. The world no. 2 managed to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
World no. 48 Barbora Strycova caused an upset against the Spaniard Muguruza, who is ranked third. The Czech won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
