India’s gold rush continued for yet another day at the South Asian Games being held at Guwahati and Shillong. On the fourth day of the prime tournament in the build up to the Olympics Indian contingent managed a whopping 45 medals taking India’s tally to a total of 124 medals. Sri-Lanka hangs on to the second spot with 87 medals followed by Pakistan with 37 medals.
45 medals in 45 events for India
Indian players participated in 45 events on the fourth day and came out with a medal in each and every event. Sri Lanka who gave a decent competition to India till the third day was left completely over-shadowed by India’s performance as they trail 37 medals. India’s 25 medals on the day take the tally to 78 gold medals, Sri Lanka stand a distant second with only 17 gold medals.
The Indian swimmers swept 7 gold medals, the athletes won 6 followed by the archers winning another 5. On the other hand, the Volleyball and the Kho-Kho teams registered a clean sweep winning the gold in both the men’s and women’s category.
Basketball scraped from South Asian Games
In the only uneventful happening at the South Asian Games yesterday, the organizers had to scrap Basketball from the scheduled games. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) de-recognized the event due to interference from the government.
However, the organizers failed to reach any positive conclusion and as a result the event has been scrapped.
