Bengaluru FC vs Chennai City FC: Subs Steal the Show
Riding on a successful campaign against Shillong, the Blues made some changes ahead of the clash against Chennai; newbie Mandar Rao Dessai featured in the starting XI to add more firepower to the Bengaluru attack. For the visitors, Brazilian forwards Charles D’Souza and Marcos Vinicius paired up to lead the Chennai attack. Bengaluru had a good hold throughout the game and created timely chances but missed out on many occasions, thanks to Karanjit Singh, the Chennai keeper who made some brilliant saves in the first half.
After a series of frustrating misses in the first half, Bengaluru coach Albert Roca made two changes in the second half. Roby Norales, who donned the no. 9 shirt for Bengaluru replaced Mandar Rao Dessai in the 59th minute and CK Vineeth came in for Daniel Lalhimpuia in the 70th minute. Both the substitutes made impact in quick time as Roby found the back of the net in the 76th minute in his first few minutes of the I-League.
Just three minutes later, it was Vineeth who received Udanta Singh’s cross from the right flank and slotted one home comfortably to double the lead. The Bengaluru midfielder ran towards the West Block in jubilation as the fans cheered him on. Roca’s subs had made justice to his move in an emphatic manner.
