FC Goa Thump Delhi At Home

A match between the two bottom placed teams is often regarded to be a less interesting clash. This wasn’t the same in the case of match 30 of the Hero Indian Super League. Eighth placed FC Goa travelled to Delhi to face the Dynamos and dominated the entire 90 minutes of play. Goa outclassed the Delhi Dynamos 4-1 and are right back in the competition. A brace from French defender Youness Bengelloun led the scoresheet while marquee player Robert Pires scored his first ISL goal. Tolgay Ozbey scored the final goal which helped them recover from the goal difference point of view. For the hosts, it was Gustavo Dos Santos who scored a consolation goal off a penalty in the 73rd minute.

First Half- Bengelloun Strikes Early To Give FC Goa 1-0 Lead:

The first half didn’t see many chances being created as the defending was good on both ends. FC Goa looked more settled as they were moving forward as a unit. The quartret of Tolgay Ozbey, Robert Pires, Andre Santos and Mandar Rao Desai kept the Delhi defenders busy. Anwar Ali and Wim Raymaekers were firm as a rock and didn’t allow the Goan strikers to enter the danger area.

In the 18th minute, Peter Carvalho headed a cross from Debabrata Roy straight to Delhi keeper Kristof Van Hout. The ball returned to the 6-yard box from his save and Bengelloun struck a left footed shot on the bounce into the goal. The first half ended with a slender 1-goal lead in favour of FC Goa.

Second Half- FC Goa On Attack Mode Straightaway:

The visitors doubled their lead just 3 minutes into the second half. In the 48th minute, Andre dos Santos took a wonderful free kick and it was Youness Bengelloun again who got the ball past Van Hout through a header on the rise. Five minutes later, Tolgay Ozbey made an impressive run inside the box and was fouled by the charging Delhi Goalie. Robert Pires made no mistake in converting the penalty as he fired a powerful shot into the bottom right corner of the goal. Goa seemed unstoppable during the second half as they teamed well and pierced through the Delhi defence and Ozbey summed things up with another goal for Goa in the 59th minute.

In the 75th minute, Debabrata Roy handled the ball inside the box and gave away a penalty for the Dynamos. Gustavo dos Santos scored from the spot and managed to get his name on the scoresheet.

This win will largely boost FC Goa ‘s morale as they have earned three valuable points and have pushed Delhi Dynamos to the bottom of the table. With 8 points from 8 games, Goa are just 4 points behind leaders Atlético de Kolkata while Delhi needs to work hard on their defence to get out from that last place. Delhi will face Kerala Blasters in their next match on November 16 while FC Goa travel to Mumbai for their next fixture on November 17.
