It’s time to pound to the streets again! After the Kolkata marathon, we have the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) coming up on Sunday the 18th of January.
From professional athletes to weekend warriors, thousands are expected to flood the city streets. And if the moulding of a fitter nation is not motivation enough, here’s something to give an extra impetus for the Indian professionals: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will treat the event as a selection trial for national squad for the 2015 Beijing World Athletics Championships!
Covering a distance of 42.195 km, the marathon is open to all above the age of 18 as on the day of the competition (on or before 17.1.1997).
Also open to all above the age of 18, participants of the Half Marathon will traverse a distance of 21.097 km.
This one’s for children of the age of 12 years. Participants will be required to run a distance of 6km.
Senior Citizens’ Run:
Distance: 4.3 km
Minimum age eligibility: 60 years as on race day (born on or before 17.1.1955)
Champions with Disability

The event has seen people from all domains coming out with support. The International Ambassador of the event is Marion Bartoli, 2013 Wimbledon Champion and acclaimed tennis player and model turned actor, John Abraham.
