Bengaluru based biker CS Santhosh made Indian motorsports history, when he became the first Indian to finish the race. He was also the first Indian to take part in the 9000 Kilometer race and did the unthinkable when he crossed the finish line at the 36th position.
The 31 year old was sponsored by Red Bull for the prestigious Dakar Rally and was invited to the event after his impressive display in the World Motor Cross Championship. In the six event – Motor Cross Championship, Santhosh had two top ten finishes which saw him finish 9th in the overall standings.
He rode the KTM 450 Rally bike supported by mechanic Melot Benjamin. Melot had the experience of working with Rally expert Ruben Faria in the past and was crucial in helping Santhosh reach the finishing point. Santhosh had earlier attracted a lot of attention from the organisers for being the first Indian to take part in the event.
Finishing the race in the first attempt itself is a great achievement for the biker and after the success story of Santhosh; the organisers might be interested in inviting more Indian racers for the Dakar Rally.
Here’s saluting this talented hero of Indian motorsports.
