The Indian hockey team’s Asiad gold medal winning effort last year and string of good performances against Australia and at the Champions Trophy have caught the public eye and there is an increased interest in the likes of Sardara Singh and his cohorts. Also, the presence of popular names like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and John Abraham in the owner’s list and perhaps in the stands will be another crowd-puller.
Teams in the Hockey India League
The Hockey India league will see six teams from six different regions of India namely Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Ranchi, Mumbai and Punjab. From the last season, the Mumbai Magicians and Ranchi Rhinos have been dissolved and have come back in a new avatar as Dabanng Mumbai and Ranchi Rays respectively. Indian and international stars at the Hockey India League
The Hockey India league boasts of some big Indian and international names hockey. Indian skipper Sardar Singh will be seen leading the Delhi Waveriders while star goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is the captain of the Uttar Pradesh Wizards. The league will also feature Indian stars like Akashdeep Singh, Rupinderpal Singh, VR Raghunath, Mandeep Singh and SV Sunil amongst many others.
In the list of international players, one of the most popular names is Jamie Dwyer. The power-packed Australian striker will play the Hockey India league for the Punjab Warriors. The Punjab Warriors also features Argentine midfielder Agustin Mazzilli who will provide the much needed stability to the team.
The likes of Mark Knowles, Simon Child, Jeremy Hayward, Matt Ghodes, Lucas Villa, Ashley Jackson, Tim Boon and Barry Middleton will be seen in the Hockey India league.
