Two rounds of the Hockey India League have come to a close. Many surprise wins and losses were recorded in the second round. All the teams will have a lot to reflect upon after some great wins and near losses. Initial league leaders Kalinga Lancers are now placed second from bottom. The Lancers lost four consecutive matches in the second round. Uttar Pradesh smashed five goals against the Kalinga Lancers in Lucknow and beat them 0-2 in Bhubaneshwar as well.
Defending Champions Delhi Waveriders Back On Winning Course
Last Year’s champion Delhi Waveriders were at the bottom for most of the second week before recording their first victory of this edition against Dabang Mumbai. Co-owner John Abraham’s presence in the stands did the trick for them it seems.
Punjab Warriors Remain Unbeaten
As predicted, Punjab Warriors are the new league leaders having not lost a single match so far. They were emphatic in the second round against Delhi Waveriders, having comeback from a goal down in the fourth quarter to win it 3-1. There’s still a lot in store with three more rounds of league stages remaining. The competition is wide open for the top spot. Difference of points between the first and last team is of 18 points. That’s a big number but just a matter of three wins can get it all chopped.
