Australia beat England by a margin of 112 runs in the final of the Carlton Mid ODI Series at the WACA in Perth today. Glenn Maxwell starred in the impressive Australian victory with a blazing 95 with the bat and then 4 wickets with the ball. James Faulkner chipped in with a fast half century and Mitchell Johnson was at his fiery best with 3 early wickets.

Australians were in a bit of a bother after losing 4 wickets for 60 runs, while batting first. Glenn Maxwell, who came in at no 5, proved to be the saviour for the Aussies. With Mitchell Marsh at the other end, Glenn Maxwell launched into a fierce attack on the English bowling and gathered runs at at a blistering pace. The duo put on 141 runs in 23 overs to pull Australia out of trouble.
Glenn Maxwell fell agonizingly short of a century and was dismissed by Staurt Broad in the 41st over. James Faulkner stepped in after that and kept the momentum going with a 24 ball 50 that powered Australia to 278/8. Mitchell Marsh scored a fine 60 and provided the much needed support to Maxwell.
England collapse, with no resistance
England suffered from early setbacks when they started the chase. Mitchell Johnson, coming back from an injury and Josh Hazlewood picked up early wickets and kept the Englishmen under pressure. The middle order was unable to find a way out and eventually surrendered to some clever bowling by Glenn Maxwell. The talented Australian all rounder finished with bowling figures of 9-0-46-4.
Barring Ravi Bopara’s 33 and Staurt Broad’s late fightback with a 24, the England batters had little to take home from this match. Australia, on the other hand, will go into the World Cup with pleasant memories of this series win.
