Day 1 of the shooting competition at the National Games saw some tough competition in the 50 metre pistol event and the 10 m Air rifle event. Prakash Nanjappa and Pooja Ghatkar claimed the singles titles while Jitu Rai and Ayonika Paul had to be content with Gold in the team event.
Men’s 50m pistol
The shooting range in the National games witness some tough competition on the second day. Karnataka’s PN Prakash managed to win the gold in the 50m pistol individual event with a score of 190.1. Punjab’s Amanpreet Singh won silver with 187.4 while highly rated Jitu Rai of the Services came home with Bronze after securing 168.1 points.
Jitu was the favorite to bag gold in the competition but he later revealed that the hot climate was causing problems with his grip on the pistol. However, despite the disappointment in the individual event, Jitu bagged gold in the 50m team event alongside his team mates Om Prakash and Gurpal Singh.
The Services team scored of 1667 in the team event to claim the Gold medal, Punjab closely followed with 1643 to win the silver. Bronze went to the Haryana team which had 1612 points.
Women’s 10m air rifle
In the Women’s 10m air rifle team competition, the team of Ayonika Paul, Anjali Bhagwat and Pooja Ghatkar from Maharashtra won gold with a score of 1241. Rajasthan clinched the silver with 1233 points and Uttar Pradesh won the Bronze with a tally of 1232.
Maharashtra had more reason to celebrate when Pooja Ghatkar went on to win Gold in the individual competition. Her team mate Ayonika Paul came in second to win the Silver while Apurvi Chandela of Rajasthan won Bronze.
